Why clean those black streaks off of your Pennsylvania roof?

Why do Pennsylvania residents want The Roof Cleaners to clean the black streaks from their roofs?
  1. Shingle longevity.
    1. Shingles that have layers of black algae covering them lose the protective layer of granules from the shingles at a much faster rate. Algae eat the limestone that makes up the majority of the shingle granules. The faster the granules come off of the shingles, the faster the sun's UV rays will break down the shingle and cause leaks.
    2. The algae retains moisture & heat in the shingle for a much loner period of time. The increased moisture & heat also cause the shingle granules to come off prematurely. The dark wet black streaks really magnify the heat intensity on your roof and that excess heat is the main reason for accelerated shingle granule loss and decay.
  2. Lower energy costs.
    1. The extra heat that is retained by the black streaks on your roof, increase the overall temperature in your home's attic. Extra heat in your attic causes your air conditioner to work much harder to cool off your home. This leads to increased energy costs and shortened A/C system life because of the constant overworking of your compressor.
